Bees are essential pollinators and are attracted to a variety of flowers. They prefer flowers that are rich in nectar and pollen. Some of their favorite flowers include:
- Lavender - Known for its fragrant flowers, lavender is a magnet for bees.
- Sunflowers - These large, bright flowers provide both nectar and pollen.
- Bee Balm (Monarda) - As the name suggests, bee balm is highly attractive to bees.
- Echinacea (Coneflower) - These daisy-like flowers are rich in nectar and are particularly attractive to bees.
- Borage - Borage flowers offer copious amounts of nectar and are easy for bees to access.
- Cosmos - These dainty flowers are colorful and abundant in nectar.
- Salvia (Sage) - There are many varieties of salvia, and bees are particularly fond of them.
- Clover - Both white and red clover are excellent sources of nectar and pollen for bees.
- Thyme - In addition to being a useful herb, thyme flowers are attractive to bees.
- Bluebells - These bell-shaped flowers are especially appealing to bumblebees.
When creating a bee-friendly garden, it’s also important to consider having plants that bloom at different times throughout the growing season, ensuring a consistent supply of nectar and pollen. Avoid pesticides and opt for native plants whenever possible, as they are more likely to provide the resources local bee populations need.
